Yet another 80m LP on SSB? Common....
Well today was a happy day. I thought that just for fun I will go ahead and do some shouting on top part of the band (DX window) and see if perhaps Bob might copy a word or something. I was surprised to get called by Bob clearly and loudly, altough he said i was not as loud as the day before, quick look at DX Atlas showed that I am 10 minutes earlier. I stepped aside and let others work Bob, OE5TOP, DK9LJ, LA2FKA and also PA7A Toon all made it to the log! I have to say, Toon! Man! That was good 45mins+ before your sunset. Amazing. Just amazing.
It just shows, that it takes both art of listening but also some level of activity to be generated by either others or yourself to make it a success on 80m SSB DX. We know that most DX is happening now on FT8 mode, which I don't like that much...perhaps because I spend too much time with computers at work....perhaps I miss the human element...who knows.... I do occasional QSOs there, but I try to avoid it as much as I can.
My setup has not changed dramatically but I am using a split TX / RX (sort of return to old days when we had a VFO, TX, RX... all separate boxes hihi) but now I use FlexRadio 6300 for main heavy lifting accompanied by my modified LVS6/R140 military PA, running oh three phase HV PSU, and for RX I am splitting and I am feeding the endfire beverage array to one ADC and TX Antenna array to 2nd ADC (RX) and I use diversity RX. I also sometimes listen to BVG array + LZ1AZ VDA RX Array and diversity helps a lot with fast fading and signal weak as paper...
See you on the bands....
PS: Its 4:31am Sunday morning and 80m SSB is full of low power guys working the NA Sprint! Amazing condx.
